The area covers around 82 km2 and is located along a NW to SE stretch between the neighbouring areas of Manacor, Artà and Son Servera.
There are mountains up to 500 metres high to the north (Calicant and El Telègraf) with the land sloping down along Sant Llorenç and Son Carrió plains to the Mediterranean shrub land and Punta de n´Amer pine grove areas next to Cala Millor and Sa Coma beaches.
The large open Mediterranean beaches contrast with inland areas housing the farming heartland of Majorca. There is accommodation available wherever you find your favourite spot, with the inland mountain area and surroundings having been declared a Natural Area of Special and Scenic Interest.
Mainly almond, carob and fig tree dry farming combined with cereal fields - largely wheat and barley - mix together in the plantation area near Sant Llorenç and Son Carrió centres, with flocks of sheep being common sights in the fields.
Wild vegetation is mainly found in the mountain area with chiefly Mediterranean shrub land and small pine groves.
